The
European Union yesterday condemned the spate of political killings in Sri
Lanka. The EU, which pledged a sum of 50 Million Euros at the Tokyo Aid
conference denounced the LTTE’s alleged serial killings of political foes,
and said such acts threatened, “to undermine international and
domestic confidence in the Peace Process.”
Strict
adherence to the Ceasefire Agreement (CFA) between the GOSL and the LTTE
would be the ‘cornerstone of the Peace Process’ said the EU statement.
In
Heads of Mission stressed both parties to the CFA should accept the rules of
the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), “Such an approach would
provide the best means of ending the current impasse over the establishment
of the Kurankupanchan Camp”.
The Peace Talks are on
hold since the LTTE unilaterally suspended the peace talks in April this
year. The LTTE’s legal experts are currently in Paris studying the
Government’s response to their demand for an Interim Administration.
The EU Heads of Mission
statement concludes with the hope the “LTTE ‘s current deliberations
will lead to a resumption of the stalled Peace talks soon”.
