Prime
Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe yesterday responded to the President’s query
about LTTE’s contentious camp located in what is described in the MoU as
Government controlled area. The PM assured President Kumaratunga the
Government is continuing with its efforts to have the Manarasakulam camp
removed.
“The
Norwegian facilitator, has been brought into the picture and its special
envoy Erik Solheim has been in continuous dialogue with the LTTE leadership
on this matter,”
the Prime Minister said.
President
Kumaratunga had asked for a report on August 21 on Government action to
remove the LTTE encampment which is also know as the Wan-Ela camp.
“This
camp creates the most abominable precedence, to encourage the LTTE to
continue with their high handed activities with such impunity,” President
Kumaratunga stated in her letter.
On
July 01, the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) requested the LTTE to
withdraw the camp stating it was a violation of the ceasefire agreement.
