Madihe Pannasiha Thera passed away

The
chief priest of the Amarapura sector the Most Venerable Aggamahapanditha
Madihe Pannasiha Thera passed away yesterday morning at the National
Hospital Colombo.
Born
Benson Wilmot Pujitha Gunawardena on June 21, 1913, the Mahanayake Thera
entered the Buddhist clergy at the age 13. The Thera received his higher
ordination ‘Upasampada’ in 1933. In 1955, he was elected Mahanayake of
the Amarapura Nikaya.
President
Kumaratunga has sent a message of condolences and says the Mahanayake’s
death is an irreplaceable loss to the nation and followers of Buddhism in
Sri Lanka.
The
mortal remains of the Mahanayake Thera’s will be cremated with state
honours on Saturday, September 13 at the Independence Square, Colombo.
