Malaysia to build the Colombo-Kandy expressway

A MoU on the Colombo-Kandy expressway was signed between the governments of Malaysia and Sri Lanka, during Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s recent visit to Kuala Lumpur. The two-day working visit to Malaysia, concluded September 10.

The expressway is expected to cut travel time between Colombo and the hill-capital Kandy, from two hours 45 minutes to a mere 55 minutes. The cost of the expressway is around 21 billion Sri Lankan rupees.

The Premier called on his Malaysian counterpart Dr.Mahathir Mohamed, and the two leaders reviewed the state of bilateral relations between their countries and expressed the desire to promote closer cooperation especially in trade and investment.
