Helgesen and Solheim due tomorrow

Norway Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vidar Helgesen and special advisor Erik Solheim will make a routine visit to Colombo tomorrow, September 17.

During their two-day visit they are scheduled to call on President Chandrika Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe.

“Discussions will include the question of a possible resumption of direct talks between the parties, a discussion on how to ensure progress in the humanitarian and rehabilitation work in the war affected areas and also how best to ensure that the economic benefits of the peace process reach people in all parts of the country”, a Royal Norwegian Embassy statement said.

Mr. Helgesen and Mr. Solheim are also due to hold discussions with LTTE political wing leader S.P. Thamilselvan, representatives of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), EPDP and civil society leaders.
