to commemorate late Muslim Congress leader

A
special commemorative stamp is to be issued today to honour the founder of
the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, M.H.M. Ashraff. Tuesday 16th
September was the 3rd death anniversary of late Minister Ashraff. President
Chandrika Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe are to attend
the today’s ceremony to mark the official issue of the stamp and first day
cover.
Minister
Ashraff along with 14 others was killed in a helicopter crash on September
16, 2000. The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) was founded in 1981 under the
leadership of Al hajj M. H. M. Ashraff.
