‘#1 in flight entertainment’ - Sri Lanka’s national airline

[September 25, 2003 - 7.30 GMT]

The World Airline Entertainment Association (WAEA) Avion Awards in Seattle, USA has named SriLankan Airlines for the award of “Best Overall In-flight Entertainment”. The presentation was made on September 12. The WAEA founded in 1979, and has a membership of 75 airlines and 200 airline suppliers, committed to excellence in in-flight entertainment.

The Best Overall ranking is determined by a composite score received by each qualifying airline based on that airline’s individual scores in selected print, audio and video categories.

The in-flight entertainment entries were judged for originality, suitability, production value, content and balance. The 23-member international panel of judges evaluated nearly 200 samples of in-flight audio, video and print that appeared in commercial service during the period from June 1, 2002 to May 31, 2003.

In previous years SriLankan was also successful at the Avion Awards winning Second Runner-Up for Best In-flight Entertainment Guild in 2000 and First Runner-Up for the same award in 2002. The airline did not enter in 2001.
