Indian FM Yashwant Sinha
and Canadian FM Bill Graham are due to arrive in the island today.
Yashwant Sinha will lead
a powerful delegation at the fifth session of the India Sri Lanka Joint
Commission to be held here in Colombo on Thursday, October 16.
The Joint Commission the
highest body in charge of promoting bilateral relations between the two
countries is expected to deal with specific proposals relating to trade,
finance, investment, social, cultural and educational matters as well as
programmes in science and technology.
Minister Sinha is also
scheduled to meet with the President and the Prime Minister. On Wednesday
October 15 he will inaugurate a photographic exhibition on Buddhist sites
and Art heritage at the National Art Gallery, Colombo.
He will make a
presentation of a CT scanner to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital and a bus to
the Jaffna University at the Indian High Commission, Colombo.
The Canadian FM Bill
Graham is in the country on a three-day visit and is scheduled to travel to
Jaffna to meet civil society leaders, October 16. He will meet a cross
section of the Tamil community including academic and religious leaders,
human rights activists and NGO representatives at two meetings. He is also
scheduled to meet Jaffna Military Commander General Sarath Fonseka.
Graham is due to meet
with President Kumaratunga, PM Wickremesinghe, Constitutional Affairs
Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris, Leader of the Opposition, Mahinda Rajapakse,
SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem and TULF Batticaloa Parliamentarian Joseph
Pararajasingham.
