President appoints acting IGP

[October 16, 2003 - 10.30 GMT]

President Kumaratunga today appointed DIG Indra de Silva as acting Inspector General of Police.

The President recommended to the Constitutional Council the name of senior DIG for appointment as IGP, however since there was a delay in its response the President proceeded to appoint an acting IGP in terms of 41(C)(2) of the Constitution.

Former IGP T. Anandarajah retired from service on October 14.
