India and Sri Lanka to sign new economic agreement

India and Sri Lanka have agreed to begin negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Corporation Agreement (CECA). Talks on the agreement are to conclude by March 2004. The CECA will replace the current Indo-Lanka Trade Agreement, which is restricted to a list of goods to be traded between the two countries.

The CECA prepared by an Indo-Lanka Joint Committee, covers an unprecedented wide spectrum of economic and trade areas like service, aviation, transport, tourism and investment.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who is currently on a two-day visit to Delhi met with Indian leaders for bilateral talks.
