CFA still stands says President

[November 5, 2003 - 6.00 GMT]

“I am specifically authorized by President Kumaratunga to state that the Ceasefire Agreement stands and will stand. There is no question about that”, assured Senior Advisor to the President, Lakshman Kadirgamar speaking to the media today.

“The President has absolutely no intension whatsoever of provoking a resumption of hostilities. Attempts are being made in certain quarters to send messages to the Wanni that the president will resume hostilities. This is an old game”, stressed Kadirgamar and said it is often played in our politics.

Yesterday President Kumaratunga relieved three cabinet ministers of their portfolios, namely defence, interior and mass communication, in the interest of national security.
