President and PM agree to hold more talks

President Kumaratunga and Premier Wickremesinghe met today in a friendly atmosphere to discuss the present political situation. The cordial meeting lasted 2 ½ hours, another such meeting is planned for next week.

 

The news release signed by the secretaries of both the President and the Prime Minister states is reproduced below,

News Release 

The President and the Prime Minister met today at the President’s House at 11.30 am in a cordial and friendly atmosphere. The meeting lasted for 2 ½ hours.

After an exchange of views on events leading to the present situation the President and the Prime Minister decided to move forward and continue the dialogue with all parties concerned.

It was planned to have a further meeting between the president and the Prime minister in the course of next week.

The discussions were attended by W. J. S. Karunaratne, Secretary to the President, Bradman Weerakoon, Secretary to the Prime Minister and Mano Tittawella, Senior Adviser to the President and Senior Director General of the President’s Office.
