New IGP appointed

Indra de Silva was appointed as the Inspector General of Police by the Constitutional Council yesterday.

President Chandrika Kumaratunga nominated him for the post and the Constitutional Council approved the nomination.

Indra de Silva joined the Police in 1972 as an ASP. He served in several areas including the North and the East. De Silva was appointed DIG in 1992 and was promoted to Senior DIG in 2000.

His appointment to IGP follows the retirement of T.E. Anandarajah in October this year.
