President’s Christmas Message - 2003

[December 23, 2003 - 10.00 GMT]

Christmas is a time when the world celebrates the birth of the Prince of Peace. Christmas is synonymous with tranquility and the festivities across the world extend beyond Christendom. We Sri Lankans have continued to enjoy and cherish a religious freedom sadly lacking in some nations. Over the centuries we have grown to respect each other’s religions and partake in each other’s joys. Let us continue to keep alive these worthy traditions.

It is now a good time as any to reflect on the words “Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you”
Matthew 5:44

Let us contemplate on these words of Christ, not just during this festive season, but everyday, so we may make our little corner of the world a peaceful place to live in.

I wish you all a peaceful Christmas.
