Two
Lankan Foreign Ministers past and present to address New Delhi Security

India has invited
Minister Tyronne Fernando and former FM Lakshman Kadirgamar to attend the 6th
Asian Security Conference in
New Delhi. Indian Defence Minister George Fernandez who is President
of the Institute of Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA)
has extended the invitations on behalf of his Government.
Minister Fernando is due
to speak on the “Current Challenges to Multilateralism and the UN”. His
predecessor now senior advisor on foreign affairs to President Kumaratunga
will handle the topic “Conflict Resolution and Post-Conflict
Management.”
Among
the other billed to speak are the Indian and Brazilian Foreign Ministers,
Yashwant Sinha and Celso Amorin, UN Deputy Secretary General Louise
Frechette, Russia’s Deputy Foreign FM Yuri Febotov, European Union High
Representative for Foreign Policy Javier Solana, Karl F. Inderfurth, Former
US Assistant Secretary of State, and Yashushi Akashi, Chairman, Japan Centre
for Conflict Prevention, Tokyo. The two day meeting begins today in
the Indian capital.
