President Chandrika
Kumaratunga in a message to mark the 56th Independence Day which
fell on February 4 said the time has come for Sri Lanka to take stock of its
achievements as an independent nation.
“Perhaps this is a good
time to take stock of our achievements as an independent nation. I believe
we the elected leaders of Sri Lanka should reflect on how we would be
remembered by future generations,” she said.
“In fifty-six years we
have come far, yet with peace we could have gone much further,” said Prime
Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe in his Independence Day message.
The Prime Minister
