President
Chandrika Kumaratunga dissolved Parliament with effect from mid night
Saturday, February 7, 2004.
The
13th Parliamentary election will be held on April 2, 2004
according to the extraordinary gazette notification issued on Saturday.
Nomination
for the election begins on February 17 and will close on 12 noon of February
24, 2004.
The new 225-member legislature is
to meet on April 22, 2004.
Meanwhile
President Kumaratunga appointed two new ministers. Lakshman Kadirgamar,
Minister of Information and Telecommunication and D. M. Jayaratne, Minister
of Post and Communication were sworn in before the President at
President’s House Colombo on Saturday.
