The Presidential Secretariat yesterday dismissed a claim by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe that the dismissal of three non-cabinet ministers had affected relief distribution work in the North-East and other matters pertaining to the peace process.

The Prime Minister yesterday wrote to the President alleging that the dismissal of three non-cabinet ministers engaged in North-East affairs had an effect on the provision of relief supplies and the peace process.

The three non-cabinet ministers the Premier referred to were the Minister of Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Minister of Wanni Affairs and the Minister of Hindu Religious Affairs.

The President’s Office in its media release says the dismissal of these three Ministers had no impact on the peace process, but happened when the LTTE walked out from direct negotiations in April 2003.

The Head of the SLMM, Trond Furuhovde who met the President on Wednesday, February 11, said the ceasefire is in place and is effective.
