President Chandrika Kumaratunga yesterday asserted that no government under her leadership will in anyway incite or provoke the LTTE to going back to an armed conflict.

“We will encourage the LTTE to enter into the democratic framework, through Provincial Councils or any other political mechanism introduced through a political solution”, she said.

The President was optimistic the new Alliance between the two main opposition parties would result in a solution to the national question although it was a difficult task.

President Kumaratunga said the Alliance had a programme for achieving peace with dignity for all communities living in Sri Lanka. The President on Wednesday February 18, attended a ceremony in Gampaha, a town 30 km from the capital, to felicitate a former Member of Parliament who had completed 10 years in politics.
