Presidential Commission to probe the death of popular monk

President Chandrika Kumaratunga appointed a three-member commission yesterday, March 11 to inquire into and report on the circumstances that led to the death of Ven. Gangodawila Soma Thero. 

Ven. Soma Thero was passed away in St. Petersburg, Russia on December 12, 2003. Several Buddhist organizations and individuals requested the President to appoint a Commission of Inquiry to establish the cause of his demise.

The Commission is to be chaired by a retired Supreme Court judge, Punyadasa Edirisuriya. The other members of the Commission are consultant physician Dr. Dilkushi Anula Wijesundara and Prof. Mendis Rohanadeera. The Commission has been given three months to complete its study.
