Parliament reconvened 
[April 16, 2004 - 10.30 GMT]

A Presidential proclamation issued on April 08, 2004 has summoned the new Parliament to meet on Thursday, April 22, 2004. President Chandrika Kumaratunga issued the order by virtue of powers vested in her by Article 70 of the Constitution.

In the Parliamentary Elections on April 02, 2004, a total of 196 legislators were elected. Twenty nine (29) legislators are made up of technocrats from the political parties represented in Parliament.
