Norway to resume facilitator role

The Sri Lankan Government today moved towards recommencing peace talks with the LTTE. The Norwegian Government has expressed its willingness to resume its role as facilitator. President Chandrika Kumaratunga telephoned the Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik on Thursday in this regard.

This was confirmed by Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar who added no immediate timetable had been set as yet.

PM Bondevick is quoted as saying that Norway would consult with both the involved parties about how the process can be taken forward.
