Norwegian facilitators due in Sri Lanka
[April 28, 2004 - 5.45 GMT]

Norwegian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vidar Helgesen and Special Advisor Erik Solheim are due in Sri Lanka later this week.

The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Colombo said the delegation along with the envoy in Colombo Hans Brattskar and other officials will call on President Chandrika Kumaratunga on May 2. The delegation is then due to travel to Killinochchi on May 3, for discussions with LTTE Political Wing leader, S.P. Thamilselvan.

However, Vidar Helgesen will not accompany the delegation to Kilinochchi due to a long-standing commitment in Indonesia.

The Norwegian communiqué said the delegation will explore with the two parties possible ways to take the peace process forward and how Norway might assist in this regard.
