Norwegian FM due in Sri Lanka

Norwegian Foreign Minister Jan Petersen is due in Colombo Monday next week. During his two day visit Mr. Petersen will hold discussions aimed at taking the peace process forward. Minister Petersen will be accompanied by Deputy Minister Vidar Helgesen. He is scheduled to meet with President Chandrika Kumaratunga and LTTE leader Prabhakaran.

According a communiqué from the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Colombo the Sri Lankan government and the LTTE have in meetings with representatives of Norway expressed their desire to resume the peace talks. The parties have reiterated their commitment to the ceasefire agreement and their wish for Norway to continue with its role as facilitator.
