Minister Kadirgamar in Washington DC

Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar will today discuss bilateral cooperation and peace initiatives with the US in Washington DC. Minister Kadirgamar will hold talks with the Secretary of State Colin Powell and National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice. 

According to communiqué issued by the Sri Lankan Embassy in Washington said, “Minister Kadirgamar will brief Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice the status of the ongoing ceasefire agreement and prospects for resumption of peace talks” 

Sri Lankan Foreign Minister is also expected to meet with senior officials of the Department of Defence at the Pentagon, to discuss the ongoing defence and security relations and related issues between the two countries. He is also scheduled go on board the US Coast Guard Cutter “Courageous”, which is due to be officially handed over to the Sri Lanka Navy next month.

Minister Kadirgamar is also expected to address the Congressional Caucus on Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan Americans of the 108th Congress.
