ACSA was never on the agenda says Kadirgamar

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement issued today 16th May says Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar did not discuss the Access and Cross Service Agreement (ACSA) while in Washington. The ACSA was to allow US warships and aircraft to use Sri Lankan bases for refueling. It was never on the agenda says the communiqué from the Foreign Ministry. Mr. Kadirgamar’s five day official visit to Washington concluded on 13th May 2004.

Asked about a media report that he was planning to discuss an ACSA agreement in Washington Mr. Kadirgamar said “There is no question about it. It was not discussed”.
