President Chandrika
Kumaratunga congratulated President of the Congress Party of India, Sonia
Gandhi on her party’s victory at the recently concluded Indian
Parliamentary elections.
“This victory is
testimony to your leadership and commitment to the Congress Party policies
that will serve the people of India in their march towards prosperity and
progress”, said President Kumaratunga.
A Congress-led Alliance
secured 217 seats out of the 543 legislature, thereby coming into power
after a gap of nine years.
