Sri Lanka- Japan ties to be strengthen

Ambassador of Japan, Akio Suda called on Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar at the Foreign Ministry yesterday to discuss ways and means of broadening and deepening the long standing friendly relations between the two countries. 

The possibility of holding a joint meeting of the Sri Lanka –Japan Business Corporation Committee of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and its Japanese counterpart to explore joint business ventures, was also discussed. The Sri Lankan FM expressed his interest in utilizing this forum to promote particularly rural based industries in Sri Lanka.

FM Kadirgamar also welcomed the initiative taken by Ambassador Suda to commission a study by JICA to promote Japanese tourists to Sri Lanka. The Foreign Minister also pledged the support of his Ministry for this initiative and observed that the Ministries of Tourism and Culture would likewise lend their firm support.
