Leading Buddhist prelate passes away

A leading Buddhist prelate in Sri Lanka, the Chief Incumbent of the Malwatte Chapter the Most Ven. Rambukwelle Vipassi passed away yesterday afternoon after a brief illness at the age of 88. He was ordained monk in 1930 and was appointed Mahanayake of the Malwatte chapter in the year 1989 and has held the high office since.

Government leaders and politicians from all parties constantly sought his advice and guidance on important national issues. 

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse among those who paid their respects to the late Thera, yesterday.
