Railway Authority Act to be repealed

The Cabinet has decided to repeal the Railway Authority Act and to modernize the Railway by improving the management.

In a Cabinet briefing held in Colombo today Cabinet spokesman Minister Mangala Samaraweera said the Railways would not be privatized under the UPFA Government.

Minister Samaraweera further said that based on a proposal by Transport Minister Felix Perera the Cabinet has decided to spend Rs. 90 million towards repairing over 2000 buses. This project will be done by an Indian company, Indian Line Credit, said the spokesman.
