World Bank assistance to boost agriculture

The World Bank yesterday announced a $64.7 million loan to boost agriculture in Sri Lanka’s North and East and said the money would help villages move away from subsistence framing and towards higher production, thereby increasing the standards of living.

“To sustain the peace process, it is vital that the people of the North East should be assisted to rebuild their social networks and livelihoods”, World Bank Country Director Peter Harrold said in a statement.
