PM due in Sri Lanka today [June

Prime
Minister of Singapore Goh Chok Tong has left Dhaka for Colombo on his final
leg of a three-nation South Asian tour. He is due in Colombo at 1400 SL time
today (Friday) on an official visit, with a 33 member delegation.
This is his first visit to Sri Lanka as Prime Minister. Premier Goh will
bring the message of the importance of South Asian countries opening up
their economies to competition. He will meet prominent Sri Lankan
businessmen and is due to address a Business Forum at Colombo’s Hilton at
1700 hours today. In 2003, bilateral trade between Singapore and Sri Lanka
increased by 21 percent to S$936 million.
The
visiting Prime Minister will call on President Chandrika Kumaratunga at the
Presidential Secretariat this evening, and hold discussions with a Sri
Lankan Government delegation.
President
Kumaratunga will host an official dinner for Premier Goh and his delegation
at the President’s House later in the evening.
On Saturday, the Singaporean PM will meet his Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda
Rajapakse and opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe for talks. After the
meetings he will visit the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy. He will be accorded
a civic reception by the Mayor of Kandy.
