Asia Cup curtain-raises today

Asia’s premier limited-over cricket tournament gets underway today in Sri Lanka. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, UAE and hosts Sri Lanka are vying for the Asia Cup in this much awaited six-nation tournament.

India takes on UAE under floodlights in the ancient city of Dambulla 144km from the capital. The second encounter is between Bangladesh and the minnows Hong Kong at the SSC stadium in Colombo.

Thousands of cricket fans from the region have flocked to the island to enjoy this cricket bonanza, which will go till early August.

Sri Lanka meets India in a day-night match at Rangiri Dambulla stadium on Sunday, July 18.
