You deserve to be champions says President

President Chandrika Kumaratunga in a congratulatory message the Sri Lankan skipper Marvan Atapattu said the Sri Lankan team maintained a very high level of consistency right through the tournament and deserves to be Asian Champions.

Sri Lanka became Asia Cup champions for the third time beating India by 25 runs yesterday. Sri Lanka who won the toss and batted first made a total of 228 for 9 of 50 overs.

“Your astute captaincy must also be commended and I wish you and your team well in the upcoming home series against South Africa,” said the President.
