Government Minister denies media reports attributed to him
[August 4, 2004 - 7.00 GMT]

Several Sri Lankan dailies and the State Television and Radio have carried news items today [4th August] which imply that the Government has totally rejected the LTTE’s ISGA proposals. The news agencies have attributed the statement to Minister Maithripala Sirisena the General Secretary of the SLFP the main constituent party of the UPFA.

Minister Sirisena has issued a statement saying there is absolutely no truth in this story that has been attributed to him. Minister Sirisena says the President at an Executive Committee meeting of the ruling Alliance on 2nd August 2004 stated there is no change in her Government’s stance. The President maintains that the GOSL is willing to discuss with the LTTE, its proposal for an interim administration alongside the talks to reach a final solution acceptable to all communities.
