President Chandrika Kumaratunga has instructed the Ministry of Education to complete filling all vacancies for teachers before December 31 this year. The President who holds the Education portfolio has directed that priority be given to national schools and schools being developed under the Navodya project. According to an Education Ministry release teacher transfers are also to be completed before the end of the year and newly recruited graduates will be posted in schools after training. “Transfers will be done with transparency and in a fair and equitable manner,” the release said. The release further said that in addition to the special allowance, a string of special welfare incentives is to follow suit for teachers serving in disadvantaged and rural areas.
