Govt. cancels fraudulent land transfers
[August 06, 2004 - 10.15 GMT]

The Cabinet has decided to cancel all 528 land transfers carried out by the Land Reforms Commission from January 2001 to March 2004 with immediate effect.

“This decision was taken due to large-scale corruption and fraud that had taken place when disposing state lands,” Cabinet spokesman Mangala Samaraweera said at a weekly press briefing yesterday.

He further said that the Cabinet has also decided to call a CID investigation into alleged irregularities in these land transfers.
