Anthrax scare at Colombo’s US Mission

The US Embassy in Colombo remains closed indefinitely since Tuesday afternoon, after it received a letter in the mail containing a suspicious powder.

The Medical Research Institute, Colombo is conducting tests on the ‘contents’ for anthrax spores and the final report is expected in four days.

In a notice issued to American citizens in Sri Lanka and the Maldives, the embassy states that American citizens needing emergency services may call +94 11 244 8601
