In the first full length interview to the International Media President Kumaratunga said her Government had agreed with the LTTE on the issue of an interim administration.  She said "We have gone 75 percent of the way, the Tigers are not willing come the other 25 percent of the way," and added, "We are still hoping to persuade them to come 25 percent of the way because we have gone 75 percent of the way".

Asked about the internecine war between the guerrillas endangering the country's stability, President Kumaratunga cautioned her Government will not hesitate to act in the national interest.
