[September 6, 2004 - 10.30 GMT] The country is moving positively towards peace and the UPFA will do whatever possible to get the LTTE back to the negotiating table, President Chandrika Kumaratunga said on Saturday. "Things are moving positively on the peace front. There are no setbacks," the President said at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party's (SLFP) 53rd anniversary celebrations in Galle. The Sri Lanka Freedom Party marked its 53rd anniversary on Friday, September 3 with the laying of the foundation stone for a new Party headquarters in Battaramulla. The Annual Convention of the Party was held in Galle following day. President Kumaratunga said the government intends to invite all political parties within the next few weeks to ascertain their stance on the peace process. She said it was the responsibility of the government to ensure security to all communities and safeguard their interests. "We will never neglect that responsibility vested upon us by the people of this country," she added. Explaining the government’s future plans, President Kumaratunga said the UPFA will launch a 'Sanwardhana Sangrama' programme to develop health, education, roads, electricity and other infrastructure development programmes at the rural level. "These programmes will be implemented in all divisional secretariat divisions identifying the needs of the people at each electorate. We hope to complete these projects within the next year", the President added. The President invited all party supporters to extend their support to make the programme a success and actively participate in the programme by identifying the needs in their areas
