Japan to support human resource development in Sri Lanka

Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Shoichi Nakagawa pledged his government’s support to enhance technical assistance to Sri Lanka. The pledge was made during a meeting with visiting Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar on Friday, September 10 in Tokyo. Specific areas of assistance discussed at the meeting were Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), organic products sector and human development of software developers. 

Minister Nakagawa welcomes the concrete proposals put forward by the Sri Lankan Government to increase economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

Sri Lankan Foreign Minister invited Minister Nakagawa to attend the 2004 ICT Summit of the Asian-Oceanic Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO), which will be hosted by Sri Lanka in Colombo in December this year. 

Foreign Minister Kadirgamar also called on President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Madam Sadako Ogata.
