Three new envoys present credentials

Three new envoys to Sri Lanka presented their Letters of Credence to President Chandrika Kumaratunga today at President’s House.

They are Ms. Nirupama Rao High Commissioner of India, Ms. Nazira Binti Hussain High Commissioner of Malaysia and Monsignor Mario Zenari Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See.

The new Indian High Commissioner Ms. Nirupama Rao served as First Secretary in the Indian Mission in Colombo from 1981 to 1983. Ms.Rao is a career diplomat since 1973 and has served in missions in Austria, the USA, and Russia and was India' Ambassador to Peru. Ms Rao was the first woman officer in India to hold the post of official spokesperson of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
