The
Government today issued a communiqué condemning the continuing factional
killings. The release said ‘violence to eliminate dissent does not inspire
the confidence of the people of the North and East or of the international
community, in those who propose to assume the responsible governance of the
North and the East through a sharing of power in a democratic and united Sri
Lanka.
Full text of the Information Department communiqué.
The Government of Sri Lanka condemns the systematic killing of citizens
holding political views contrary to the LTTE; the most recent being in
Colombo today.
Political negotiations, whether for an interim authority or a lasting
solution of the core issues in our conflict, require good faith
participation by parties committed to the democratic process, human rights
and the Oslo principles of December 5th, 2002.
The continued use of violence to eliminate dissent does not inspire the
confidence of the people of the North and East or of the international
community, in those who propose to assume the responsible governance of the
North and the East through a sharing of power in a democratic and united Sri
Lanka.
