'Whale Capital' to be promoted

Minister of Tourism Anura Bandaranaike has presented a Cabinet paper to promote the city of Trincomalee as destination to attract whale watchers. Whale lovers all over the world know Trincomalee as the ‘Whale Capital’.

Sri Lanka could be promoted as the place where the largest living creatures on earth - elephants and blue whales can be seen in real life.

In order to develop a master plan for this mega project, a high-level Cabinet sub committee has been appointed under the chairmanship of Anura Bandaranaike. Other members of the committee are Minister of Foreign Affairs Lakshman Kadirgamar, Minister of Finance Sarath Amunugama, Minister of Urban Development Dinesh Gunawardena, Minister of Ports and Aviation Mangala Samaraweera, and Minister of Eastern Province Education and Irrigation Development Ferial Ashraff.

“The report on this development project will be presented to the Cabinet within two months”, Cabinet spokesman Mangala Samaraweera said today.
