All efforts to secure release of Lankan hostage

Foreign Ministry in a communiqué yesterday said that the Sri Lankan government will do everything to secure the release of Dinesh Darmendra Rajaratnam taken hostage by militants in Iraq

Dinesh Rajaratnam, an employee of Jassim Transport Company in Kuwait was reportedly abducted by an Iraqi militant group along with his Bangladeshi colleague on October 28. The militant group called Ansar Sunnah (Islamic Army) has made no contact so far or informed as to why these two employees were abducted. 

Rajaratnam  a 37-year old father of three had left Sri Lanka for Kuwait on June 9, 2003 through a local agency. He was working for Jassim Transport Company in Kuwait as a heavy vehicle driver.

The Sri Lankan Ambassador in Kuwait, M. Mansoor has met with the owner of the parent company, Transport and Warehousing Group of Companies in Kuwait on Saturday in this regard.

“The Company has assured that they are in the process of establishing contact with the militant group with a view of securing the release of the Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi nationals,” the Foreign Ministry communiqué said.
