GOSL condemns killings in Kaduruwela
[November 19, 2004 - 02:20 GMT

The Government of Sri Lanka yesterday condemned the killing of an Army soldier and another civilian in Kaduruwela, close to Polonnaruwa. The incident which took place on the afternoon of 18th November 2004 bears the hallmarks of the LTTE, said a communiqué released by the Department of Government Information.

The communiqué says ‘this is a direct violation of the Ceasefire Agreement which calls on the parties not to engage in assassinations’.

The continuing violation of the Ceasefire Agreement casts doubts on the seriousness of the commitment of the LTTE to the observance of the terms of the Ceasefire Agreement and to the peace process.

The Government is investigating these killings. It will inform the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) of this incident, and will convey the Government’s displeasure to the LTTE through the SLMM.
