President concludes two-day Iran visit

Admiral Ali Shamkhani Iran’s Defence Minister called on President Chandrika Kumaratunga on Thursday evening [Nov 25th] at the Boostan Palace in Tehran. Admiral Shamkhani said the Government of Iran would be ready to extend its support the GOSL it was to make a request.

Associated with the President at the discussions were Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar and Defence Secretary Cyril Hearth.

Later in the evening, the Sri Lankan envoy in Teheran, Ambassador Omar Kamil hosted a dinner in honour of the visiting President and her delegation at his official residence. Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Oceania Mr. Moshen Amin Zadeh was among the guests.

At the conclusion of the two-day official visit last evening the two Governments issued a joint communiqué.

On Friday 26th President Kumaratunga left Tehran on special VVIP flight for Shiraz and Esfahan on a private visit.
