Sri Lankan hostage comes home

[December 13, 2004 - 10.45 GMT]

Sri Lankan truck driver Dinesh Rajaratnam returned home yesterday after nearly two months in captivity in Iraq. He was reunited with his family who were at the airport to greet him on arrival.

Rajaratnam was taken hostage in October this year along with a Bangladeshi national who was also released. Rajaratnam arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport accompanied by Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Lebanon and Iraq Amanul Farooq.

The Sri Lankan was employed by a Kuwaiti transport company as a heavy vehicle driver and had been transporting goods to Baghdad, when he was taken hostage.
