Overseas assistance continues to pour

Relief supplies are continuing come in from several neighbouring countries and from Europe. The Government has made all arrangements at the International Airport in Katunayake and the sea ports of Colombo, Galle and Trincomalee to receive the medical personnel and to facilitate the quick clearance of the aid supplies. 

India sent 600 kg emergency medical assistance along with a team of medical officers. India is to send six M18/17 helicopters, one aircraft with medical teams, medical and general relief items.

A naval ship with a medical team, a diving team and relief items and inflatable crafts was due in Galle around noon today. Another naval ship with medical teams and similar supplies is expected in Galle later tonight. Two more Indian vessels will arrive at the Trincomalee Port also today. An Indian IL 76 aircraft arrived this afternoon at the Katunayake Airport with a medical team. 

A C-130 craft from Pakistan with relief goods is due tonight. Nepal offered US $ 100,000. An Airbus-310 with medical items from France will arrive tomorrow. Russia will send two planes tomorrow, one with medical team and 30 medical staff and the other with 2000 blankets and 110 tents.

ICRC is to send 40,000 blankets and 10,000 plastic sheets. Four doctors from Israel will arrive tonight. British Government will send 50 tons of plastic sheets and tents. Greece will send an aircraft with medical and humanitarian supplies.

Tents and blankets from Sweden are to be delivered on Tuesday 28th December.
