Humanitarian Assistance Committee for North East

The President has instituted a Humanitarian Assistance Committee for the districts Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mullativu. The Governor of the North East will chair this committee.

The said committee could request the support of all Government Institutions, the three services and the police. The assistance of the rescue teams from France, now based in Vavuniya may also be obtained by this committee.

The President has directed the Sri Lanka Peace Secretariat via the SLMM to seek LTTE agreement, for the Russian teams of medical personnel now in the island to work in the Kilinochchi and Mullativu areas. Sri Lankan, Indian and Russian helicopters are also standing by to provide humanitarian assistance to affected areas in the North.
